16 DEC 2022  •  11:00-12:00 CET  •  Luxembourg Square (Brussels)

Join Mr Scrooge and the ETS ghosts for a very special Christmas Carol to mark the final stage of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) negotiations, this Friday 16 December, in front of the European Parliament in Brussels.

The EU ETS revision envisages up to €400 billion in free pollution permits for some of the most polluting sectors in the EU between 2021 and 2030. Meanwhile, the Social Climate Fund stands to receive at most €72 billion by 2030 – and even this is being challenged by the Council and, especially, the more “frugal” member states that do not want to contribute to this fund.

This instrument is supposed to collect revenues to support poorer and more vulnerable households to deal with the energy transition. If these elements are agreed by co-legislators, they would make for a profoundly unfair and socially unjust reform that continues to subsidise large polluters on the backs of vulnerable families and individuals.

This is the final opportunity for the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Environment Council to agree to the best possible reform of the EU ETS that makes polluters pay for a fair and clean transition.

We count on your support and solidarity.  If you are in Brussels, please join us.
