SUMMARY:
On 14 July 2021, the European Commission launched the Fit for 55 package to step up in Climate Ambition, as part of the European Green Deal. The Fit for 55 package is a set of proposals to revise and update EU legislation and to put in place new initiatives with the aim of ensuring that EU policies are in line with the EU target of at least 55%. In this study, we have analysed what this package would mean for the most carbon-intensive industrial sectors and what type of policy support is required to ensure that industry would contribute to the overall reductions and remain competitive in the long run.
